Lesson:

Each month during pregnancy is very important.  Your baby will change and grow in a very special way.

Your new baby will get all of the food it needs from you.  It is important that you are aware of what you eat and drink.  Also, ask your doctor or pharmacist for a prenatal vitamin.  These vitamins are for pregnant women and unborn babies and prevent certain types of birth defects.

Avoid smoking, alcohol, recreational drugs and certain medications because these things can harm your growing baby. The following website will explain why this is important.

Contact a medical doctor as soon as you think you are pregnant.  Medical care while you are pregnant is necessary.  The doctor can make sure that you and the baby are healthy.  They will also tell you which medications are safe for you to take.  If you do not have a regular medical doctor or cannot afford one, contact your local health department.  There is low or no cost prenatal care available to new mothers.
