Being
able to make friends and respect others is an important life skill and will help
your child(ren) in school.Children
also need self-confidence.As
you interact with your child, you are developing these important social and
emotional skills.
Children
begin to develop social skills early in life.As infants, they will respond to your facial expressions and voice. As toddlers, children begin to see how their actions affect other people. And as children interact with other children, they begin to develop a
sense of empathy.
Showing
affection and encouraging your children to try new things will help develop a
sense of confidence while building these social skills.
Being social with other children is also important.
Following the rules at playtime and learning how to treat others will prepare
your child for kindergarten. You never want your child to hit you or any
other person or pet. Teach them to say, "please" and "thank you" while
they are learning to talk. Find other children for your little ones to
play with. Contact local churches, YMCA, and the Department of Children
and Families for information on groups in your area.
