Standard 1

  • Adults and children will participate together in regularly scheduled activities

  • Document participation in the family literacy program

Lesson:

Keeping a journal is a good way to record your thoughts and activities while they are still fresh in your mind.  This will become a record of your activities with your child.

It is best to complete a journal entry the same day as the activity.  Do not wait more than a week to complete your journal entry.  You might forget some important details.

Traditionally a journal is kept in a notebook or spiral book.  You will keep a journal on your computer.

Adobe files:  These files are available to print.  You can write the answers on the paper and give them to your mentor.

Word files:  When you open one of these files, you can type your answers, save the page on your computer and then send it in an email.

Here is a sample entry:

January 3, 2002  -  PACT

  • What is the name of the activity? We did the activities for Buzz Said the Bee

  • Describe the activity directions.  The directions said to pretend to be different animals from the story.

  • What kinds of things did you discuss with your child?  I pretended that I was a mommy pig.  Then we made sounds like all of the other animals, a cow, a sheep, a fly.  It was a lot of fun.

  • How did the activity turn out? How did your child react to the activity? Casey really liked the book and wanted to do it again.  When I read the story again, we made all the sounds for the animals.

  • On a scale from 1 – 10, how would you rate this activity?
(1 is the lowest and 10 is the highest)
I give this activity a 10.  It was easy, and it was fun!
