Lesson:

Some researchers have said that the only thing harder than being a teen is parenting one.  Maintaining a healthy relationship with your teen or pre-teen can be challenging.

Teenagers that are going through this difficult time need support from parents and family.  They are becoming more independent and struggling to become recognized as adults.  This can cause conflicts with parents who want to maintain control in the relationship.

One of the most important ways to maintain a healthy relationship with your teenager is to respect their opinions and feelings.  It is important that you let them be themselves and support them while they are making their own decisions.

Spend time with your teen.  Even when they act as if they do not want you around, teens need to know that you will always be there when they need you.  As a parent, you need to know your teen like where they are spending their time and who their friends are.
